| Jane Layton has been working with clay for a number of years. It all started when she enrolled on a ceramics course at Stonehall College in Birmingham. She enjoyed the course very much, but the classes passed so quickly that she started to take clay home and prepare work in readiness for the next session, carefully transporting formed, but unfired clay back to the college! Fortunately Jane was blessed with an enthusiastic tutor who recognised her enthusiasm and organised extra classes for her and the other students which made making and firing a little easier and a bit more seamless. Before long, Jane started to develop her own style, her passion for working with clay and the continued encouragement of her tutor, eventually gave her the confidence to invest in her own kiln.
The dogs and cats that Jane now creates are her own interpretation of their many different characteristics, their expressions never failing to appeal to her. That sense of fun and amusement is evident in her lovely and engaging work.
