| Jo Louca was born in Bristol, but has lived most of her adult life in Surrey. She studied at Farnham College University, gaining a B.A.Hon in Fine Art and has since exhibited widely in Galleries around south England. She currently lectures int art and runs children’s art workshops.
Primarily a landscape painter, but always concentrating on the elemental power of light, atmosphere and the mood of an area, Jo uses the time honoured traditional method of glazed oil paint which best utilizes the paints' translucent qualities to build up a subtle depth of colour. Jo's approach is a contemplative, intuitive process, celebrating the sublime beauty of light itself, an attempt to portray the essence of the land rather than a figurative representation of it. Frequently the initial inspiration for paintings comes simply from gazing up at a light filled canopy. Rarely introducing overtly angular manmade structures such as buildings, but often including signs of human influence on the land such as tracks, hedgerows field formations. Traces and imprints left by us.
Although a specific reading for each painting is intended, she purposefully makes the works none prescriptive, allowing the viewer to interpret each work in their own way. Everyone seeing something different. |
