Printmaking: sarah dunton
Sarah Dunton grew up in Surrey. She graduated in Fine Art from Leeds University in 1976.

For many years she then worked in the art therapy unit of a large psychiatric hospital in North London and later as an art therapist and project organiser in special schools and residential homes for young adults.
At the same time, Sarah was also further pursuing her own studies by attending evening classes at Morley College learning printmaking, in particular etching.

In 1980 she moved back to Leeds and decided to become a full time artist, establishing a studio with the purchase of a Bendini etching press. Sarah's etchings are drawn on to zinc plates, using a combination of grounds and aquatint. Editions are therefore small in number, not usually exceeding 50 copies. Sarah also paints, draws and works in silver and gold to produce hand made jewellery. The themes of these items compliment her two dimesional images.

Sarah's work is a tribute to the private worlds of fish, birds, beasts and people. Images are derived from the memory of things seen and feelings experienced rather than from direct observation. Recurring themes are gardeners, cooks, wildlife, domestic creatues and still life.
