The connnection with the 'Purbecks' in Dorset goes back many years. Although born in London, it is the rural beauty of that county that Margaret likes to escape to and the area has become a constant source of inspiration. Having explored the subject of gardens and landscape through various mediums and approaches, Margaret's acrylic and oil paintings now focus on the shapes, forms, colours and textures of the Purbeck landscape and coastline. She says:

"The dramatic contrast of the unique light reflecting on the stone and the sea, the ancient fields forming terraces, the rise and fall of the hills with so many routes and pathways that have been chiselled and etched into them over time, add to the fascination of this subject, as does the odd building and other landmark, sticking out defiantly on the horizon. The changing seasons, land erosion and different weather conditions, result in the familar scene having many visual possibilities, many faces. To capture the essence of some of these elements, I will compose from the memory of a walk or a particular place. Images filtered in this way tend to get closer to the spirit of what is there and says more by stating less."
